Belgian Cardinal Cardijn Foundation seeks candidates for Cardijn Prize

The Cardinal Cardijn Foundation at Halle, Belgium has called for nominations for the fifth Cardijn Prize.

The aim of the association is to promote the work and the ideas of Joseph Cardijn, EditiePajot reports.

One of the missions of this association is the granting of the two Cardijn annual prize to a person or association who recalls the spirit of Cardijn.





President Guy Tordeurs said: "Cardijn was for the small man. We are keeping alive his love for the simple laborer and working class.

"Cardijn knew how to carry his message all over the world and despite his modesty.

"The little man from Halle is still able to speak to the world. Projects that promote his message daily deserve our support."


To qualify for this award, candidates need to meet the following criteria:

- Promoting the development of youth

- Combating poverty

- Improving employment and new opportunities for people who have lost their jobs.

- Making a social contributions at any level so that disadvantaged groups get views on better living conditions.

First prize Euro 1500. Second and third prize are 1,000 and 500 euros respectively.

Applications must be submitted no later than 1 April 2009.
